California

I have a lot of catching up to do! I guess I'll start with California. We went to Cali the end of June to visit my dad and camp at the beach with some family and friends. We had a blast! I was really nervous that Gideon was going to ruin our trip by not sleeping, but to my surprise Gideon slept just as well as at home (which isn't very good, but it wasn't any worse). I was talking to my sister and I mentioned that Gideon was more flexible and she looked at me as if I was a flying pig. If anyone has talked to me the last 10 months they'll know that Gideon is as rigid as can be when it comes to his sleep. But I guess things are changing...yea!!

Water boy

Drink, splash, dump, suck, soak, spray, swim in and/or with bottles, bowls, straws, hoses, pools, tubs, ice cubes; basically anything with H2O, this boy LOVES water! First thing in the morning he goes straight to the dogs water bowl and dumps it on himself. Today at church he screamed for the drinking fountain. Gideon has a water radar!

PS-Turn the volume all the way down please, your experience will be better with out my whiny voice (its a little embarrassing)!

A great day to be a mommm...and dad.

For Mother's day we had a picnic at the beach. Gideon was intrigued, and somewhat frightened, with the ocean (i sometimes feel the same way...sharks!) Also Gideon decided to say mommomm all day to show how much he loves me. It was a great first mothers day. And not to shabby for dad too.

"Look! Your baby lost a tooth too."

This is what a kid to me the other day. No, Gideon did not loose his middle tooth, he was just blessed with a STRONG Whiting gap.

How to...plumbing 101

Have you ever wondered how to dislodge a makeup brush from toilet pipes?? Well today is your lucky day! Our handsome handyman Clint has laid out 3 easy steps so that we can all do this at home. WARNING!!This is not for the faint of heart...it is pretty nasty!

All of the tools are household items that anyone can use: a wooden spoon, the long side of a plastic hanger, a small flashlight and a mask.

Step 1: Unbolt the toilet and put it in the bathtub.

Step 2: Use your tools to dislodge the brush (this may take some creativity swapping tools to maximize efficiency).

Step 3: Put the toilet back in its original spot and VOILA!! Your toilet is as good as new!
PLEASE REMEMBER to use rubber gloves...because its nasty!! Just so you know, we threw away all of the tools (except the flashlight) and the brush.

My kind of scrapbooking

To the devoted scrapbookers(you know who you are) I hope you don't take my next statement as blasphemy...but I just can't quite get into scrapbooking. I thought once I had a baby something magical would happen and I would turn into a crafty queen. But as a mother the barriers with scrabooking are still there. I can't seem to break free from the dark side.

First of all, I think it is really hard to start from scratch. You either have to spend a ton of money buying all the equipment, or you are stuck being "out of style" with your scrapbooking because you can't keep up with the trends. Secondly, I'm just not that good at it. I know it takes practice but I don't think I'm patient enough. I don't really want to see my pictures framed with mediocre art when I know that they could look so much better (probably if one of Thorn women did it). And lastly, I'm not a big fan of things falling apart. They seem so delicate and fragile; it drives me crazy when I know that something could break if I look at it the wrong way.

So for now I am sticking to what I can do and can afford...Blurb. Blurb.com is a really cool site where you can build and design your own books. My sister makes the most beautiful books. It's not free, but for me the results are consistent and the structure is Marissa proof (which means a lot). So if anyone feels like I do, know that you're not alone. There are options out there for the non-scrapbooking women of the world...don't be ashamed. And for those who are not part of the dark side, you may enjoy this too.

P.S. These thoughts are only a reflection of my current views. I'm definitely open for future discussion.

Oh Happy (MLK) Day...

Wow! Another beautiful day! And when the sun shines in Seattle it is breathtaking.Clint had the day off so we spent some time outside. We walked to another park in our neighborhood. This is why I love the area we live in, there are so many parks around us. I found my self in awe of the scenery, so I was glad to see that the pictures captured some of the beauty we enjoyed.

The Ballard Locks...

Finally!! It seems like months since we last saw the sun. We wanted to take advantage of it since it could be months until we see the sun again! So we went down to the Locks. This is such a cool area. You can watch the boats as they transfer from Puget sound into Lake Union, enjoy the gardens and see the salmon as they come in. This is definitely a must see if you come to Seattle. Gideon was fascinated by this place, he couldn't take his eyes off of the boats...or it could have been that he was just too cold to move! We were fooled into thinking that the sun meant it was warm...it wasn't! Nevertheless we had fun, and it was good to see the sun even though we didn't feel it too much.

As you can see Gideon is growing so fast! Every day he seems to change and I can't keep up with him. His new thing is singing. He has a rock voice and an angelic voice. The rocker comes out when I play my music for him. He has fallen in love with one of my CDs (he also has a favorite song). Whenever I play it he kicks his feet and belts out his rendition of the song (it's pretty cute)! But there is a time and place for everything, when its time to go to bed we sing lullabys together and he sounds like a little angel as he softly sings with me...ahhhhhhh.

A walk in the park...

Despite the gloomy weather we decided to take a walk to the park. This is such an awesome park, you can pretty much see all of Seattle from it (and its only a couple blocks form our home)! But the major bonus of the outing was the pictures we took with our new Christmas camera. We are still learning how to use it but I think these pictures of Gideon are super cute!!
